The Jacquard loom was the first machine programmed by punch card — the honest ancestor of this engine. Altineris works the same way: sources run as warp, briefs are punched as cards, the engine is the shuttle, and four stop-motions halt the whole machine the moment a thread breaks. Below, the loom is running.
CHAPTER I — THE ENGINE WING
One machine, one temperament. It is not fast for its own sake and it is not cheap by declaration. It holds exactly three commitments, and each one is mechanical.
Before the first pick, the warp is walked end to end. Every source thread on the beam — blog, closer, client-3, client-4 — is read in full before the shuttle is allowed to move. Nothing is woven over material the machine has not handled.
The pattern memory holds thirty days of cloth. A draft that re-weaves an old figure is not a draft — the originality stop-motion drops the wire and the loom stands still until the pattern changes.
No price is printed anywhere in this study, because none has been measured yet — the counting house is open issue #44. Until it closes, the only honest figure is: not yet known. The loom keeps count; it does not guess.
CHAPTER II — THE INSTRUMENTS WING
Five instruments, filed as punched cards. On a Jacquard loom the card is the program — a hole is a permission, blank is a refusal. Every status below is honest: nothing in this drawer is live. Everything is being built.
CHAPTER II · PLATE B — THE STOP-MOTIONS
A serious loom does not weave flaws faster — it stops. Every draft passes four drop wires on its way to publication. If any one falls, the shuttle halts and the piece never leaves the machine.
